Full Version: Time for a "big boy" bed

The time has come to graduate to a big boy bed! For those of you who've already been through this process, would you recommend a twin or a full bed? If you bought a twin, do you later wish you had gotten a full? Or is it not that big of a deal? And of course the next question is...where's the best place to buy a new bed these days??

I'd love to get a new bedroom in place between June 30th - July 4th (during Luke's surgery & recovery), so I'm not sure that I'll be able to wait for 4th of July sales, unfortunately. Thank you in advance!!

Is Luke the one moving? Does his surgery require a big boy bed? If not, you might want to wait on the move until he is a little more comfortable. "THey" say don't do this big move when there are other things going on. I can tell from experience, there was a lot of teaching the oldest to go back to bed because in his new found freedom, he decided he liked us a lot and wanted to spend time with us. We moved the oldest to a twin (with a rail) and then to a full. I wish we had gone straight into the full.

I have no suggestions on mattresses other than play the sales.
Gotta Get Down
you can get mattresses at costco, bjs, or sams if you aren't a member. otherwise i am a member smilie21.gif

i would either do the change now (like this weekend) or wait until after the surgery for sure. with the older one we did twin and with the little one we did a full. we also just did a mattress on the floor at first. it was a necessity for the wild sleeper, but not so much for the other one. I think Luke would do fine in a twin though.

Or ask me! I have a really good queen mattress set that is idling because of the combining of our families. Gotta Get Down can attest that I am not a filthy person. wink2.gif

Yes, Luke's the one who's ready to move from the daybed (where he already has freedom to get out of bed and doesn't - he's so good!) to the big bed. His surgery doesn't require a big boy bed...it's just something that he gets SO excited for when we mention it, so I thought the timing might be right. Ya know...something for him to be so happy to come home to. Or even as a surprise. Luke's been through a ton, and if we don't make any moves while other things are going on, then the poor kid won't get anything new for awhile! facebook.com/teamluke

I'll put a notch down for a full bed. smile13.gif

Unfortunately I think a queen is just going to be too big. Thanks, though!

Having aTH the bedrooms are small & you lose a lot of floor space should up go with the full size bed. For my girls the twin size has worked well along with the rail.

I'd say go with the full, if you can. As much time as I have spent reading, laying down with and snuggling the boys, it is always more comfortable with more space. It also makes room for siblings for those impromptu "sleepovers". I bought the boys furniture and mattresses through Costco. I have been happy with what we bought, and like that I could order additional pieces later. Let me know if you want to come take a look at it. Far more reasonable than anything I found at Belfort, and the quality is nice. If you need a van and card for costco..let me know.

Ok.....I survived all the way THRU college with a twin. Why do our kids need bigger beds?? I'd rather fill up their wall/floor space with bookshelves, desks or whatever else.

A full gets my vote too. It may seem big now, but there's plenty of room to grow into it and it's so nice to have that extra room for reading and late-night cuddling. Our son graduated from crib to full and with all his stuffed animal friends and pillows surrounding him there really isn't much extra room anyway! Good luck!

Easy, so they can hump when they're teenagers. smile13.gif

Go for the full bed. The added room for snuggling and reading will be worth it. Costco is a great place to get a mattress, if you're not of member I'm sure one of us Brambletonians will hook you up.

Go Luke!

If you want to let him pick our his own sheets, Target has great full size kids sheets in neat patterns. My son was very excited over his sports sheets when we bought them. I didn't realize he was in a daybed, this should be great fun for him.
Veruca Salt
We got a full and just put the mattress and box spring right onto the floor for about a year until we were sure he was not going to fall out. The full also made falling out less likely, and it leaves room for us to watch TV or sleep with him when he is sick.
