Red County Bound
QUOTE (maeve @ May 26 2010, 04:54 PM) *

The Governor of the entire Commonwealth makes 175K. Now -- admittedly, the Loudoun School budget seems bigger and more complicated than running an entire state -- but, I promise you we could find someone to do the job as well (and probably better) for less money.

Wayde Byard makes 124k to call me @ 6am to tell me that school is closed? How do I get that job? wink2.gif

(Before anyone gets all realistic on me...that was a joke)

Wow. I'm probably making assumptions based on some bad photos, but compare to the demographic data for the county from the 2006-2008 ACS. Guess I shouldn't be surprised.

How bad does it gotta suck to have your pay listed in the local paper?

OK how in the heck is PIO (Public Information Officer) range from 62k to 124k.
I mean the 64k is for the Sheriff's office...you wold think they would be putting out just a few more press releases and dealing with the media, than say the public school PIO at 124k..that is just ridiculous.

How is it that Hatrick earns more than the Vice President, the Speaker of the House, and most (if not all) of American governors?

I know that yours is a rhetorical question, but the point is, we have a free enterprise system, and the Superintendent negotiates his own salary. Why not compare what an NBA basketball player makes to the people above? Or perhaps compare his salary to similar school systems. Yes he is a public servant, but not an elected one.

Also, I would argue that with use of Air Force planes and a free house for VP, and the other perks that come with it, the VP/Spkr position has a compensation package that blows Hatrick's away.

One more add....Bristol Virginia public schools, which consists of a HS, a MS and 6 elementary schools, just hired a 40 yr old man who has never been a Superintendent, to be their school superintendent for $110,000 a year. Not sure how big Virginia High is (that's the name of their high school!!!), but I am certain it is less than 1,000 students. We will have 12 high schools this fall averaging well over 1,300 kids. And Hatrick gets paid a little more than double that. Oh, and I don't know about the cost of living in Bristol, but you can bet your a$$ that you could sell your home in Brambleton and buy a mansion in Bristol with it.

Hmmmm....are you talking race? Gender? Age? Three supervisors are featured, all are male....how many on the BOS are female? Pic of LC BOS

Also, the LCPS leadership includes a female Asst. Superintendent (Ackerman) and female director of Personnel (Hardebeck). Does the US Congress resemble the population of the USA? How about the corporate leadership of America? What about the DC government? Why has there never been a white mayor of DC? Why doesn't Hawaii send any whites to the Congress?

Another thing, it is my guess that the diversity that is becoming more commonplace in Loudoun is a new phenomenon(last 10-15years). So a lot of the minorities in this county are relatively new to this county, and thus more likely to be young (note the explosion of our school-age population that indicates that much of the growth of our county is in the young population). Now think about who obtains there powerful positions.....usually professionals aged at least 40, probably 50 and above. As the county's minority population ages, more of the people who take on leadership roles will be ethnic minorities. Again, my guess, what does everyone think about that.

Bottom line is this touches a nerve (as a white guy who works for LCPS) because I am concerned that people too often practice racism in public sector jobs by looking at an applicant pool and saying "who can we pick that is a minority" instead of "who is the most qualified for this job".

Six of the twelve HS principals are female (willing to bet that more than half of the elem school principals are female as well). These are very high-paying jobs. One of the twelve HS principals (or 8.33%) is black, so that's higher than the 7.8% of black residents of the county. Check out the number of women in leadership roles the school administration office. Check admin drop-downs on menu bar
