Just got a call from Loudoun Water this morning. The caller indicated that my bill was past due and needed to be paid by Monday noon. She didn't specifically threaten to turn off my water, but it sounded as if that was the intent of the call. I promptly informed her that we would pay the bill immediately, and she said she'd mark it on our account.
I recalled seeing the bill in the stack of mail we brought in only the night or two before, and when I opened it this morning - it was only the first notice of our quarterly bill with an original due date for Monday. Huh?? Anyone else getting calls like this over their water bill?

We haven't gotten any calls but my question is why would they be strapped for cash? Don't they have a monopoly in Loudoun?

We had a similar call recently. I totally thought I had blanked and missed the bill, but when I looked back, saw that it wasn't late. I even sent my husband to the location to pay the bill. Totally freaked me out.

Actually, turns out mine was late. Didn't look at the bill that close - I've received a late notice from them before and they made sure I knew it by marking it red all over - not so with this bill. Oh well, taken care of.

Either way, what's with the collection agency tactics....I could understand if we're late multiple months, but c'mon, 'he better call us by Monday' kinda threats are ridiculous.
And time for them to get aboard the ebill train. Sending me an email saying my bill is ready isn't the same.

They do offer EFT. Not the same, but better than nothing.

Anyone else have a ridiculously high bill this quarter? I don't think we've every paid more than $130 anywhere. This bill was over $300.

Ours was in line with previous bills. That's a pretty significant jump.

My mother-in-law who lives in a small cottage like home in an over 55 community has hers run about the same. And it's just her in the house. Water company came out and tested, found no leaks. Finally, someone at LCWA said it has something to do with seasonal usage. If you go over your average, your rates on the overage are really jacked up.

We got hit hard with seasonal usage fees last summer.
It's in the fine print of your bill, but if you go over your average usage level and get into the "overage" rates, they add up fairly quickly.
I am vowing to set my sprinkler system more conservatively this year.

It's very possible that every load of laundry we did over the quarter was with a second rinse cycle. That knob broke off the washer and I don't think I put it back on right. Plus, during the bad weather, I did a lot of laundry. Hope that's the last bill like that I see.

I constantly have to rerun loads of laundry that I forget to put in the washer right away. We've never had a bill that high.

I can beat any of these stories

. Two years ago after we turned our water back on in the spring we didn't realize that our one soaker hose which is under the mulch was actually turned on. It ran for about a month straight and our bill for that quarter was over $900. Over half of that cost was extra fees.
