Leesburg movie theater

I remember reading about these theaters in the NY Times a couple of years ago. The CineBistro concept is kind of nice.

Another interesting tenant at Village at Leesburg:

King Pinz

I wonder if it's still slated to open this month.

"Called King Pinz, the upscale 14-lane alley will look similar to the popular and club-like Lucky Strike chain, the bowling alley/lounge of choice for Hollywood’s glitz crowd." So a bowling alley for douchebags?

Seriously, that Leesburg Wegmans plaza is going to turn into a bigger fuster than the one in Dulles.

Can't we just get a standalone Wegmans somewhere?

That would be nice. Though knowing Loudoun planning getting in and out of the parking lot would still be a disaster. smile13.gif

Think this is a great addition. I hate going to the Bowl America's...smokey and dirty. Based on article, its identical to Lucky Strike with exception that King Pinz is geared toward families, whereas at LS, kids are not allowed after 8/9p.m.

And as far as new movie theater goes..not good for Fox. They will lose all of Leesburg, Purcellvile, Lansdowne and possibly part of Ashburn market.

I love this idea, but only 14 lanes? I envision it being constantly packed -- unless they're not really there to bowl....?

Bowling alleys are supposed to be smokey and dirty. That's the whole charm.

Yeah, boo hiss on this. The last thing we need is for stinkin' Fox to go under.

Bah...I see no real competition from a smaller theater like this one. I want to go to the movies to watch a movie, not eat at a fancy snack bar.

I can see where they might grab some of the date night dinner and movie crowd, I don't think they are going to steal much or all of Fox's business.
Besides - walking distance to Fox - don't forget that part of the equation. That Leesburg center could become just as traffic flow challenged as the Dulles Wegmans is.

hmmm- could be interestng -the Fox takes on the teen scene and the family crowd, new place gets the DINKs and the date night crowd... i kinda like the option being out there!

in Munich there was an awesome theater called the Nymphenburg- they served beer, whiskey cocktails, popcorn in flavors like ham and cheese (it was gross!), and butter and sugar (FAB!)... it was like a bar scene before the movie started! klieg lights, giant bulbs and lots of mirrors in the lobby reflecting everywhere- they kept the doors to the theater closed until just before the movie started so everyon emingled in the lobby- you felt like seeing the movie was a real EVENT. i also loved that since the theater was usually full- the ushers would come by and make everyone fill in the random empty seats in the row to make pairs of seats on the ends... making jokes about coming in wth one date but leaving with another... it was really fun!

i hope this new place has that kind of style- boy do i miss that...

Yeah, way too schmancy (& probably expensive) for the average movie going crowd. What a relief.

Oh, cool, I didn't realize the new place was some posh, hipster bistro thing.

Are you saying Fox Cinemas isn't expensive? For me to take the kids to a movie and get popcorn and drinks cost close to $80. That is ridiculous if you ask me.

Whoohoo- Eggspectations and then a movie at a “high-end” theatre in a sterile shopping center environment w/ no charm. No thanks for me. I’ll be sticking to Brambleton or DC for my date nights.

Know doubt it's expensive, especially for families. Should have been more specific, when i said "expensive".....was referring to the Cinebistro section of new theatre, though i suspect their prices (tickets, popcorn, etc.) will be waaay more expensive than Fox, which is a good thing for Fox.

Disagree. Fox pulls quite a crowd from the Leesburg/Purcellville/Lansdowne market...don't have numbers but based merely on the number of people that we run into on a weekly basis up at BTC and what friends have shared with us, it's more than you think. Do i think it represents a bigger percentage than the Ashburn market, no, but enough that they could feel it. Just like Countryside Regal felt it in their numbers when Fox opened (& that came from the Countryside Mgr.). Will it put them out of business, um, i don't think so. Just concerned that it'll reduce BTC traffic for our merchants.

Not from what I have seen. It will not hurt them. We also have friends out in that area and they never come here for the movies. So unless you got the stats, you cant really make a statement like that.

There probably more coming from Southriding then coming from those areas.

And nor can you("nah....most of their business is too local Ashburn South Riding crowd"). AND if you read the rest of thread I SAID that after looking at their website I didnt think that it would (catering to different crowd). BUT if it did, it would probably pull from those areas. It's just MY personal opinion, like it is yours that Regals main pull is from ashburn & south riding.

Ashburns a given, was referring to south riding, but whatever. Just like Regal Countryside, Fox will most likely lose some numbers, it's a given. Just like the Teets at Ashbrook did when the Teets in Lansdowne opened. Or Giant in Countryside did when the Giant AV opened 20yrs. ago, or when the Best Buy opened in Leesburg. Both the Best and Regal Countryside manager said it effected their volume. Not enough to put them under but effected them non the less. But to say, just because your friends out west don't use our movie theater doesn't mean that others don't. Particularly on Friday and Saturday nights. Just like the Ashburn/Leesburg residents who would drive to Countryside Regal to see a movie, many now come to Fox. And i suspect when the one opens at villages of leesburg, there will be a shift as well. Yeah, i don't have the stats but as a moviegoer and a Loudoun resident for over 20 yrs. I've been part of that shift too.....going where it is convenient.

I've tired of this topic and bantering with you about who actually frequents our movie theater. So argue away.... icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyone whos been on this board knows I love a good arguement. You're the one who stated you knew people from out there that drove out here. I was merely pointing out you just becaue you know people, doesnt mean that they represent everyone...Just like my friends dont represent everyone.

Though in the end
I agree..Fox is going under.....all those Leesburg and Purceville residents make up 80% of the demographic the theater serves. you are right. The high population of East LC cant support.. No need to argue anymore

My wife and I go to the movies almost every weekend. We saw 3 movies this weekend. Fairfax Corner 14: Cinema De Lux is expensive.

I truely don't understand why some people pay full price for movies. Years ago we bought Costco tickets, and now we use Entertainment Book discount coupons. Geico sells discounted tickets online also.

Fox is the best we have to offer, but it sucks in comparison to other theaters like AMC. Best theater I've ever been to is AMC 24 in Hampton, VA. The lobby area is poorly designed for the amount of traffic. If you go see a earlier showing you can exit freely. If you go at night you have to wait for incoming movie goers because they close off the entire lobby.
