Copied from LCPS WEbsite:

On Tuesday, February 16, we hope to reopen schools for students. LCPS staff are working hard to make our campuses ready to receive students and vehicular traffic. We need the help of all Loudoun citizens to make Tuesday a safe day for students. We will open school one hour late to allow commuters time to leave streets that many students will have to use to walk to bus stops and school. Please help us have a safe opening on Tuesday by:

* Working over the weekend to clear places for students to wait for buses. If sidewalks can be cleared that should be done also, but in many places such clearing will be impossible.
* Using available buses to get to school.
* Limiting driving students to elementary schools for drop off. If you must drive, please carpool to reduce long lines of automobiles competing with school buses and students who are walking to school.
* Supervising students who are walking to bus stops and school both in the morning and the afternoon. Using streets as sidewalks presents dangers that can be minimized with proper adult supervision.
* Leaving in plenty of time to avoid a last minute rush at school.

We look forward to a safe and smooth reopening of schools after our extended closure for weather. Please watch and listen for any other announcements that may be caused by changes in weather conditions. In some remote areas of the County we may have to alter bus patterns. We will attempt to call parents to let them know of any changes in normal bus routes.
Thank you in advance for your help. Over this past week we have seen countless examples of neighbor helping neighbor to survive some of the worst weather conditions many of us have ever seen in Loudoun. That spirit on Tuesday will assure the safety of our students, which is our number one priority.

I would personally carry every student at Legacy across the snow packed tundra and deliver them to the front door, if it meant that mine would go back to school on Tuesday. I also want everyone to be safe, but I am done! eyebug.gif

I can't speak for all the streets in Brambleton, but I thought of this when I drove home tonight (Legacy/Regal/Highcrest). There are many sidewalks not cleared and every corner I have ever previously witnessed kids entering or exiting schoolbuses appear to be sporting 3-4 foot snow drifts. The kids will be in the streets unless something miraculous occurs over the weekend.

(not finding fault with the plowing, the plowers probably weren't advised to keep certain intersections clear with the thought of school buses)

That said, I don't have kids who need to board a schoolbus come Tuesday. If anyone wants to organize a shoveling brigade to clear a space for the kids to load safely, I would be happy to help, PM me.

Also - if anyone knows the approximate location of the fire hydrants on Highcrest and wants help trying to dig them out, please PM me. If we need them, we are SOL. For the life of me, I can't remember the location(s).

One is across the street from me and Hawkeyenative took care of clearing the snow away. Not sure where the others are but I think there's one across the street from the original Kensington model.

Our street rocks! Thank you Hawkeyenative!!

For some reason, I thought there was an additional one down the street from me on the same side. (for all the times I walked Max over the past years, you would think I would remember icon_rolleyes.gif )

Hilarious! We could do it like a mosh pit, passing each kid over our heads until they reach the front of the school. Safely, of course. smile13.gif

Now you all know why I wanted the gov to reopen.

The corner of legacy park and courtland park won't be cleared without a loader. Sorry but the drifts are higher than 3 or 4 ft. I addition, I don't think the 8ft snow piles that are on the sidewalk across the street from me are going to be cleared (the loaders widened our street last night and piled the snow on the eyebrow and covered the sidewalk).

I think I heard my husband sobbing when he saw what the 4 a.m. machinery did to our stretch of the Courtland Park sidewalk. He busted his a** to keep that pathway clear through both storms.

We are done with trying to keep our sidewalks cleared. Why? Because the plows keep clearing the street and piling the snow on our side of the street. There are no sidewalks on the street across from us...they are almost cleared to the curb. Done.

I'm seriously hoping that doesn't happen to us. The snow extends out about 3 or 4 feet from the curb.

There is a fire hydrant between our neighbors and us (corner of Highcrest and Regal Wood)--I can just barely see the little white top--I will clear the snow away this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Alohabound, thanks for reminding me of the importance of making it accessible.
TOC
OH! There is another along side our house on Regal Wood--can't see it but will poke around and find it.
