I shouldn't be happy about this because I'm on a contract where I don't get paid if I don't work... but I'm rather enjoying my little vacation.
If the storm heading in tuesday evening really intends to dump 10 to 20 inches on us there is a strong chance we'll have wednesday as well.

http://www.data.gov/opm_status.htmlOkay, technically not OPM's website, but I'm guessing they put it on data.gov's since opm went down.

If the 10-20 inches dump DC's nation, then, will the OPM break the records for missing the work hours?

We just saw it on OPM. At least my husband can stay home with the baby so I can plan for round two of hell at my job. God only knows when daycare will open again. And I just keep paying for nothing.

We just got back from BRG. PACKED! The waiter said much crazier than normal. I think everyone just wants to get out of the house. I know I do. I was tempted to walk to Harris Teeter instead of driving just to stay out of here longer.

The OPM website has a little disclaimer box about the "high volume of traffic" to the web site and the "other pages" are not available. That made me laugh.

Hmmm, wondering if OPM is regretting this decision. It is almost 2 pm and not a single snowflake. It sounds like the bulk of the storm is going to come overnight again.

They knew that... Most forecasts were not until this afternoon...I think it has to more do with the roads....Even the NRO is still closed and they operate under a different policy...

He's right. Remember, A roof got collasped at Dulles Airport (?). So, I am pretty sure that the maintenance workers from the buildings need some time to inspect and clean the roofs.

It may also have to do with the above ground metro being down. Not sure how the parking conditions would be downtown and since they are trying to get as much cleared before this next round, perhaps they thought lets keep people off the roads as much as possible.
I can't remember the last time that the Government was closed for 2 plus days in a row?

Above ground Metro was operational today. (except on some areas of the blue line). Apparently DC roads are horrible. My co-worker said K street was a mess.

Yep, DC is a mess. My co-worker said that Connecticut Ave (Van Ness area) has only ONE lane plowed so cars can only go in one direction.

so not to look a gift horse in the mouth (so to speak) do you think the Feds will be closed tomorrow too?

Last time it was closed like this was the President's Day storm of 2003.

OPM operates a listserv where you can subscribe to various alerts, including the
operating status. That way you receive an email for closings rather than repeatedly checking the website.

depends on this storm...If we get more then 4 inches my bet is they close....DC is suppose to get hit harder then us...theres a sharp cutoff from us to them.
