With temps in the mid 30s, ratios are likely 9-1...So they will probably push down the totals.

You sure? I'm hearing they'll be falling rapidly and we could be closer to 12:1 or 13:1. The models are not keeping up with what's being reported.

The battle has begun.......with the dirty work...such as hard to walk, hard to walk, hard to walk, shoveling, shoveling, shoveling and many more!

I gotta watch the "Man vs. Wild" on the discovery channel. I gotta learn from him.....hee, hee, hee.

I think 24 inches would be the minimum in our area, but I'm new to this whole thing.

To get a little more technical, I think a lot of models started to indicate we'd be seeing more of a sleet/mix for a few hours. That, of course, would lower our accumulation totals. BUT, as we're all seeing across the area, it's snow all the way to the ground pretty much everywhere. As this moves in, the mid-30s temps will be dropping below freezing and it's just going to be an absolute machine until later on Saturday. The sheer size of this storm makes December feel like a little brother.

We just came down BRR about 30 minutes ago and the snow was accumulating there. Dulles toll road was not bad.

I just cleared about an inch of slush off my driveway. The snow is, so far, wet and heavy. I can't wait to shovel 30" of it.

If it's that heavy and wet, it might actually keep the totals down a bit.

I am thinking thinking that the totals are going to be close to the high mark once it gets a little bit colder. Anyone who is thinking it is a good idea to wait until sunny Sunday - be forewarned - you won't be able to lift this stuff to shovel it. Also, it completely recovered my patio in about 10 minutes and it is supposed to come down heavier overnight. Goretex is your friend with this storm, otherwise you are going to be soaking wet pretty quickly.

Also - not to be a Debbie downer, but if we really get close to 30 inches, if I had a deck, I'd be thinking about clearing it or at least part of it.

Pick up DH from DC around 11:30. Traffic moved very slowly on 66 to Toll Rd exit. Sure wished people would turn the lights on the visibility was not the best.

Shoveled 2 inches of wet snow so far.

The Blk car on Magellan Sq that is not in a space is bound to get hit at some point the weekend. MOVE YOUR CAR to a driveway or a space

But that's just my emergency preparedness OCD talking.

Panera had a sign on their door last night that they will be closed on Saturday. I just heard that Harris Teeter will be closed tomorrow. I would imagine most places will be closed Saturday.

Well...its been snowing since 10 am and there's literally nothing on any paved surfaces. I just ran out to Home Depot and everything was perfectly fine. The weather folks on CNN are now downplaying this one, mocking predictions of 24+ inches for DC. They say a mixture of dry bands and wet snow will keep totals down.

Personally, I'm starting to get dubious--if we're really going to get that much snow, it needs to start accumulating. Other than the fact that traffic would have sucked, there's no reason I couldn't have gone in to work today.

Ditto. If this is a bust I'm going to be irked as I canceled my ski trip to Montana.

No, no, no... this was entirely expected. The CNN weather folks are hacks. The temperatures are hovering within about 2 or 3 degrees of freezing. We're only supposed to get a few inches out of this daytime snow. Once it gets darker, we will move quickly below freezing, the storm will intensify with the system off the coast, and we will most assuredly get our two feet or more.
MrsDepp
Where are you? We have accumulations on yard, sidewalks and street. We've already shoveled once.
Bo-Peep
I am under the impression there are still 30 more hours of snow to go? Weather warning was until 10pm tomorrow. While it hasn't stuck to the surfaces, we've had about an inch in the yard. My guess is that overnight, we are screwed.

You'll still have the wall just a little farther out in the road. And, you'll still have to shovel to get your car out.
