Just curious as to opinions on what they'll do tomorrow since the snow is predicted (according to Doug Hill) to start between 10 and 2.

National Weather service is saying it will start at daybreak. I think the heaviest will start later in the morning.
Evergreen
Loudoun has 16 snow days built into the school year. So far 3 have been used.
KCL
I was going to bet that they would have school in the morning just to qualify it as a school day and not eat up all their snow days, but now reading Evergreen's post about the 16 days I am now thinking that my kid ain't catching a school bus tomorrow!

Guess we're all going to party at Harris Teeter tonight!

I was wondering about this. I hear Fairfax only has 3 (it was 3 when I went there) and they've used them all up so they canceled the President's Day holiday. Frankly I'm not sure why they canceled school for them yesterday. Loudoun I get but they could have gotten away w/ a 2 hour delay in Fairfax Co.

If it starts in the a.m. if may be better to close school on Friday, so that parents can plan ahead. It's always more of a nightmare to close school mid-day-for parents anyway.

If the daycare closes, I'm going to have to bring my little guy to work. Good God that's such a bad idea!

16! Are you sure?? I just spoke with someone in Fairfax County and they only have 3 and theirs have already been used up. 16 sounds like HUGE overkill.

I heard on WTOP this morning that they don't worry about snow days because they have 15 days built in. (It culd have been 16.)

I think it has to do with the school days in Loudoun are an extra 30 minutes longer than they are required to be so that builds up a lot of "extra" days.

Fairfax also has early dismissals every Monday. I think they close at 1. That probably goes into the calculation of number of hours required for the year.

The 2 hr early dismissal on Mondays is then tacked on as 30 additional minutes to the school day Tues-Fri.
Bam
Early dismissal is a cluster. better off taking the chance and cancelling

Commonwealth of VA requires 1,000 hours in a year, so approx 5.5 hours of education per day for 180 days covers it....LCPS goes and extra hour per day (don't think lunch counts) so there's 180 extra hours, Hatrick has said in the past we don't need to make up days under ANY circumstance. I believe a widespread storm like this may earn schools a waiver at the end of the year from the G.A.

Also, rumor is out that the decision is already made to cancel, but will not be announced until your 0530 wakeup call...ENJOY!

Fairfax County Schools have already announced that they'll be closed tomorrow. I'd go with the assumption that Loudoun will close as well. Wade better call me tonight! If he calls me @ 6am, I won't love him anymore. wink2.gif

While you were away recently, Wade Byard was interviewed by one of the local TV stations. Let's just say he does not look at all like you would expect based on his voice.

Has anyone heard anything about trash/recycle for tomorrow?

What is the snow day policy in LCPS? How many days can they close before the have to make up the time?

Someone didn't bother reading the thread.

Or they did and I missed the sarcasm. wink2.gif

He's tall & bald, right? I've seen him interviewed, but it's been a while. When he calls @ 6am, I tell the mister that it's my boyfriend, Wade, calling me. Someone should start a FB fan page for good ol' Wade.

Frank, Loudoun County would have to miss about a month of school before they would have to make up any. A slight exaggeration, but just slight.

Definitely bald. He didn't seem that tall, though. He does have a great voice.

In my brain, he's tall with big but squinty eyes with old big glasses and way too much dark hair. Like, hair that's crawling halfway down his forehead. I know, creepy, huh? And totally not accurate from what y'all are reporting!

The way it's looking out there, i'd be surprised if kids see any school this week.
