Public input sessions regarding express bus service to Tysons Corner from Loudoun County have been scheduled for Tuesday, February 16, and Tuesday, February 23, 2010.

The Loudoun County Office of Transportation Services is hosting the meetings to offer citizens an opportunity to participate in planning the Tysons Express bus service which will begin this summer and operate weekdays through the end of 2013. The meetings will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16, at the Ashburn Library, 43316 Hay Road, Ashburn, and on Tuesday, February 23, at the Loudoun County Government Center, 1 Harrison Street, S.E., Leesburg.

Tysons Express will provide morning departures and afternoon and evening returns between park-and-ride lots in Leesburg and Brambleton and various employment sites in Tysons Corner. Passenger fares will be $3.00 per ride. Citizens unable to attend either public meeting may submit comments and suggestions regarding the Tysons Express bus service to rideshare@loudoun.gov or at 703-771-5665.

The bus service is being funded by the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project. The project includes a Transportation Management Plan (TMP) designed to offset the traffic congestion that normally results with any construction in or adjacent to a roadway system. One of the primary goals of the TMP is to improve transportation for those traveling from Loudoun County to Tysons Corner during the construction of the rail project.

With new express bus service to Tysons Corner, Loudoun County residents will have the opportunity to avoid the congestion experienced by most motorists traveling to the area. The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved the use of TMP funds for this purpose and the Office of Transportation Services has initiated the purchase of four commuter coaches to begin the service.

More information about Tysons Express will be posted as it becomes available on the Loudoun County website at www.loudoun.gov/bus.

I like this!

I'd be so down for this as long as they didn't let anyone else get on the bus.

Yep - next to Creighton's Corner.

I've seen that lot... seems to be fairly empty. Is there anything that you can currently ride on if you park there? Or is it more of a Park & Sit lot for now?
adavis
I guess that's my real question. I know said lot exists, but didn't think there were any mass transit options picking up from the lot.
weaz
It might be cool to take mass transit to work... and be one of those people who actually has time to read or listen to mp3s.

What if you have to stand the whole time?

Then I don't take the bus

The boyfriend takes a commuter bus downtown from the North Dulles lot each day.

From what I hear, sleeping is the most common way to pass the time on the buses.

And it sucks if you have to stand since the commute is an hour from downtown.

I've done the LC Connector bus before--my impression is that they don't let you on if its standing room only, even though that's not the official policy. Seems like as soon as the seats are full, the bus is leaving, regardless.

I really didn't enjoy it--my commute took longer, I got motion sick, and I was crushed into a seat with no place to put my stuff.

Me too! I also wanted to see if I could get weaz to sit in the commuter lot waiting for the Jesus-hippie bus to show up.

Been there, done that. Nothing showed up. Maybe I'll try again when the weather gets nicer.

This bus is no longer going to operate from Brambleton. sad2.gif

Here's the email trail - I asked when I noticed that the stops were Broadlands South and Leesburg in a advertisement I saw not too long ago:

Hello,

At one point a while back, I had seen a statement regarding these buses being run from a lot in Brambleton in Ashburn. Is that not the case anymore? I see that your article on loudoun.gov mentions Broadlands South and Leesburg.

A bus running from the Brambleton rideshare lot off Creighton Road would be a great place for this bus to run from. There are a lot of Brambleton residents that work in the Tysons area and would love to be able to take public transportation that is a bit more accessible.

Can you please clarify?

Response:

Thank you for your interest and recent e-mail concerning the proposed departure points of the Tysons Express service.

The departure points of Leesburg and Broadlands South has been finalized. These origin points have been established through the Transportation Management planning process that was completed as part of the Dulles Rail project and was not a decision of county staff. The Dulles Rail project is providing the funding for the new bus service. The bus stop locations in Tysons Corner will be determined after information is gathered from prospective riders and employers in Tysons Corner. Please make sure you provide us with your preferred drop off location in Tysons.

Should you have any additional questions or comments related to this planning process, please feel free to contact me directly.

So this is great. We have a commuter lot w/ no transportation. I guess people can meet up there and car pool? Pick up slugs for the HOV on the toll road?

You can meet up there and carpool to Broadlands, where you then can catch the bus to Tysons.

I take the kid to Ashburn every morning anyway, would still do it if the timing and drop off points work out.
