So it looks like it is moving along well. Has anyone seen a floor plan for the place? I heard indoor and outdoor pool but I am not sure I see that there. Also wondering about racquetball courts and kids area.
Their clubs can very greatly from club to club, so I am just wondering what the amenities are going to be in this one. Any one know anything?

They had one on a posterboard at the annual meeting, and I think I saw it again in the Visitor's Center at the BTC. Not sure about outdoor pool, but definitely indoor.

They will be opening up some shared space with Van Metre homes over in the town center. I heard sometime in the next couple of weeks. Should be able to answer some questions then.

I've heard from my TNT trainer (group fitness that works with S&H... they'll be at ours too) that the layout's great and that the club should be really nice. I haven't personally seen the plans though.

From what I recall at the hoa meeting in discussions w/ the developer and reviewing the layout: indoor lap pool only w/ about 3-4 lanes. Small indoor jacuzzi. Outdoor leisure pools (no lap lanes). Here is some other info I posted a while back

I posted this a while back:NEW PROJECTS:

• Hubert Construction has broken ground on the 50,000 SF Brambleton Fitness Center in the Brambleton Town Center in Loudoun County, VA. Brambleton has been planned and developed as a tight-knit community where neighbors can find shopping and entertainment close to home. The new 42,000 SF Sport and Health facility, designed by Barry Dunn & Associates, helps make the developer’s vision a reality. It will have state-of-the-art exercise equipment, basketball courts, saunas, tanning and massage areas, a juice bar, spin room, aerobics rooms, a child care area, lounge, and indoor and outdoor swimming pools. There is also 8,000 SF of office and retail space.

I love how they will have a tanning area in a "health" club....

I thought the same thing when I read this thread.

Tho I think the Shore girls use the old school tanning bed not the new fancy mist booths.

Which is ironic to me- you spend the summer at the shore but lay in a tanning bed to tan? Hello- the beach is outside your door.

It's the height of instant gratification syndrome. And the fact that I am guessing they sleep late and may miss the prime tanning hours outdoors.

I spoke to the acting "Morning Manager" at my Sport and Health on Greensboro Drive in Tysons today, regarding our club. He told that Jason, their GM, will be moving to our location and he has already left Tyson's. He told me that the sales office will be opening next week or there about. Finally he said he saw a virtual tour of our club and it looks awesome.

I tried to find a Lifetime thread to post this in, but was too lazy to keep searching.

What a difference 12 hours can make! Instead of going to Lifetime after work, I set the alarm for early this am, packed up my stuff the night before (most of it) and went before work. It was wonderful this morning compared to last Monday at 4:30-6:00 pm. I realize the early morning may not be an option for some of you, but if you are considering it, it is worth it. Maybe in a month or so, all the New Years Eve resolutioners will have dropped out and it will be more manageable in the evenings.

That said, I still can't wait until S&O opens.....

No, I didn't think you abandoned me. Our schedules were not compatible the last couple of weeks.

Yes, I am going to try to get there at 4:45-5:00 am like I did at golds. It worked before really well for me so I think this might work but I have to haul more stuff each day since Lifetime doesn't rent lockers. At Golds, I was able to store all my toiletries in a caddy and extra water/food and the undergarment collection in the event I forgot to pack something the night before. It saved me more than once from a wardrobe malfunction.

Oh and btw - I meant S&H in my previous post - I keep having a mind burp on this and confusing it with S&O. Please don't ask me to explain as I have no idea what the hell my brain is confused about. And no, for those of you who allow your minds to live in the alternative world/gutter, I am not confusing it with S&M. icon_rolleyes.gif

wbj:

Sport & Health has opened a new club located in Loudoun County’s Brambletown Town Center.

The club’s preview center is open and has started pre-selling memberships. The grand opening of the 38,000-square-foot gym in Ashburn is scheduled in early June 2010.

“We have been exploring the Ashburn submarket throughout the last year in search of an opportunity to fill in our footprint and provide the residents of the area a truly spectacular fitness experience,” said Mark Fisher, president and chief operating officer of Sport & Health.

The company, founded in 1973, now has 24 gyms spread throughout Virginia, Maryland and D.C.

Last year, the company scored $25 million in financing to restructure senior debt, renovate existing clubs, build new locations and acquire small, independent gyms struggling in the current economy.

The money was used to fund a $5 million renovation project at its flagship 85,000-square-foot Tysons Corner location, which held a grand re-opening last week. The club got a head-to-toe makeover, and its latest set of improvements doubled the size of the cardio room.

I wonder if that means I can accept that offer starting 5 months from the opening...and have it continue for a full year. I would love to avoid the opening onslaught of people!

Does anyone know if you can use your own personal trainer at S&H or do you have to use one of their staff?

You cannot us your own trainer at Sport and Health. You have to use their staff. The only facility in the area that I know of that allows that is Fitness First.

First year notwithstanding, S&H is only $11/month cheaper ($130 vs. $141) for my family. Yes, it defines convenient but I'm still not sold... The 24 hours a day thing is really hard to look past as are the other things LF has (basketball, cafes, etc...).

Oh, and another thing, Lifetime Fitness is a month-to-month membership. No contracts.

Stopped by to sign up today. They are not quite set up with computers etc. but will be by around 3 PM tomorrow. If you sign up for an additional year and pay when you take their initial "free" deal, you get a very good discount on second or even third year. And you can't beat the location!

I think this a very generous offer.

Did not receive a specific number. He just said that the discount off the usual price (?) would be very very attractive and substantial. I may stop by tomorrow after 3 PM to sign up and if I get a quote I will post it. I am sure that the annual fee stated in the letter that homeowners received is on the high side and that discounts and deals will be the norm.

Just got back from talking w/ the Sport & Health Guys: (again ocd on this)
-Outdoor pool, construction is supposed to begin next week. Outdoor pool will likely open in July. Main gym likely June, w/ a chance of it being open even earlier based on new info they received.
-Hours, seemed somewhat preliminary. I mentioned concerns about the weekend opening hours and they seemed receptive. I think the more people who mention this, the more likely they would be willing to adapt.
-Kids klubz operating hours: Undecided. They do understand there are a ton of families though. Separate infant/toddler area
-Confirmed 3 lap lanes. They will be managing the use of the lap lanes.
-Very agressive pricing for a 3yr commitment especially for Brambleton residents. I don't want to state the quote until I sign my contract but it made my jaw drop and there would be no looking back at LFT. Plus, I want to get confirmation that what he quoted was for a full family (I believe it was because we were talking about that I needed my spouse/kids the whole time)
-Spin room will be amazing. Approx 35 bikes
-I'll be there to sign tomorrow late morning. Will post more details on the price once I confirm.

I really hope they get this worked out quickly. I have belonged to two S&Hs in the past and while the Kids area has been great there is no way either place (Tysons or the RIO) could handle the kids in this area. Lifetime has maxed out several times in the past few weeks and their square footage is way more than planned for S&H.

Didn't get into the specifics of how they will manage, but my question arose from how lap lanes should be for the intended purpose (lap swimming, aquatic exercise, walking, etc)...not for general playing in the water.
hope that helps...

Don't know, but both LF and Golds have levels of membership that cost less for access to one club only and more for access to multiple local clubs. Golds was good because they are nationwide and I could get a free travel pass to any Golds in the country when I traveled. Now I am stuck with the sometimes sucky hotel gyms or finding and paying for a one day/week pass at a local club when I travel.

I realize free is free but I just got back from swimming at lifetime with my son. Since there is no indoor pool in Brambleton, I think I am going to have a hard time switching. We go to the pool several times a month during the winter (keeps up from going stir crazy). So, I want to encourage everyone to sign up for S&H, so that LF empties out.

I just signed up. The deal they have for Brambleton is If you want to add one additional year to your free year it will be 39.99 per month for you and then 10 for your spouse and another 10 for all of your dependents. If you sign up for an additional 2 years you pay 34.99 plus 10 for spouse and 10 for dependents.

They only had 2 people signing people up when I was there. They were moving people through pretty fast.

They did not know how long the +1 or +2 year rates would last.

They did say that the 10 dollar per spouse for the first year and 10 dollar for dependent for the first year deal would last until April 30.

I added dependents. I am pretty sure you need the dependent membership in order to use the kids club and the outdoor pool. They don't charge anything until the Gym opens. Then they bill only the monthly dues each month. They bill between the 1st and 5th of the month.

And from the tour, the indoor pool looks like the size of 3 lap lanes. Yes, I will go up to the town center to ask my questions in person but from the construction that I have seen, I don't think the indoor pool is nearly as big as lifetime so I doubt it will be a child friendly pool.

That is the feeling I got. It sounds like the only leisure pool will be the outdoor pool. Aside from S&Hs hours, this is the only other negative I can see when compared to Lifetime.

I think that is an awesome deal for a gym that I can walk to.

FWIW - Golds in Sterling was $40 per month with no pool(s) indoor or out, sauna, steam room, cafe or "spa". They extended that price to current members who waited for the new Cascades location to open, but I don't know what they are going to charge new members once they have the new facility ready to go. I also don't remember what exactly they are going to have.

I can understand that the cafe at LF is convenient for some of you, but I think it is annoying that the odors spread into the gym. I really don't need to be smelling food odors while I am on the stairmaster. (they seem worse on those machines because you are higher in the air)

I will put this plug in for LF. The trainers seem to be very well trained. They are attentive to the people they work with and not checking their cell phones or socializing (several of the Gold's trainers used to do that and I wanted to go smack them upside the head when I watched them be idiots).

Well, if you are like some of the parents at LFT it really shouldn't matter. You just drop them off for 2 hours and then complain that they planned all of the class schedules wrong since you are told you can't leave them there for more than 2 hours so you can go get your prime seat early for your super duper long spin class. Well that just screwed up your entire day now didn't it. And then you go in the womens' locker room and complain about it to everybody..
