10,000 Days

Posted by NumberSix, Apr 26 2006, 03:04 PM

Well, the Tool album has been leaked. I couldn't resist, so now I have it. I also have two purchased copies on order (one for a friend living in Bolivia right now), so that should clear my karmic debt. It is like every Tool album and none of them at the same time. It is certainly the most personal in theme. It deals heavily with the death of Maynard James Keenan's mother about over 2 years ago. 10,000 days refers to the time between her paralysis caused by a brain aneurysm and her death. I predict it will have a polarizing effect on Tool fans. For a band that never wears politics on its sleeve, there is one song that you could certainly interpret as being about our current President. We're not talking Rage Against the Machine stuff; the interpretation has been left up to the listener. I'm not a Bush beatifier or demonizer, but this tune certainly rocks.

Please don't ask for the album...you only have to wait until next Tuesday. If you are a Tool fan, you should pick it up...it goes many places. It's subtle, emotional, powerful and rockin'. Nothing as I expected, but I truly dig this album.

Jesus sent me an email

And this is what He said...

Subject: yo (Jesus is apparently down with lingo from 20 years ago)
-----

Morning

Something to ask you..
when u get up, u still have those aches and pains?

If it's yes, the read this at http://www.attempneedsomethingto.com/bcr/ ,
they can support u.

Either I shall kill him, or he will hit me in the head, or elbow, or knee.
Can't I go away from here, run away, bury myself somewhere?" passed through

peasants, still lay on the haycock, and still looked on and listened and
mused. The peasants who remained for the night in the meadow scarcely slept
all

Jesus

-----

Must be some hidden message in there...maybe an apocalyptic clue?

Why does that combination of words bug me so much?

I did it

I am now a member of the Libertarian Party...feel free to hold it against me. Ultimately, it came down to the core philosophy of personal freedom. I think it is a very pure philosophy of government. One I find very close to the one our country was founded upon.

A Philosophy

This is as much for my future reference as it is for you voyeurs.

I found this line particulary interesting...

"You have the right to believe in whatever religion you choose, but if your god requires the sacrifice of virgins, you must find a virgin willing to be sacrificed without the initiation of force."

How could I forget

Some of you may think I'm some kind of Tool freak or something...I do dig the band. There aren't many bands that I have followed basically from inception...it's been almost 13 years since I was first exposed to them at Lollapolooza. Anyway, they have a new album coming out next month, hence all of my Tool fervor.

I acquired a copy of the first single..."Vicarious." The subject is an apt one I think. It's about our fascination with tragedy and death served up fresh everyday via our idiot boxes. A guilty pleasure every person feeds to some degree. Hell, people rubberneck for a tire change around here. TV viewing is definitely something I have tried to cut down on and I think I've been somewhat successful. I barely watch the news. I get that mostly from the web and radio. We have a few shows we watch, but try to keep it to a minimum. There are really no reality shows I watch...I have a hard time even stomaching American Idol.

I can't help but feel if we as a society would focus on the world immediately around us, such as our friend, families and loved ones, we may be able to positively impact our lives rather than being sponges for negativity. I'm not judging anyone here, because I'm just as guilty. Just something I have been thinking about.

It's all been done

You come up with a name that you think is unique...only to google it and find out otherwise. Oh well, I'm sticking with it...

Hoy es el cumpleaños de Joan Miró. He would have been 113 years old.
